Short Course 2025 | Spatial Health Econometrics
Instructor: Rita Santos
“Everything is related to everything else, but near things are more related than distant things.”
— Tobler’s First Law of Geography (1970)
This principle holds true not just in geography, but also in economics — including the behaviour of healthcare providers. But how can we account for this spatial interdependence in economic models? How do we capture it in competition and peer effects models?
Join us for the Spatial Health Econometrics Short Course, where we will explore how spatial relationships — such as proximity and network connections — influence healthcare delivery and outcomes.
In this course, Dr Rita Santos will introduce the core concepts of spatial econometrics and demonstrate their applications to real-world challenges in health economics. Through a combination of lectures and hands-on sessions using Stata, participants will explore key spatial models and learn how to analyse health data while accounting for spatial interdependence.
