Short Course 2026 | Value of Information (VoI)

Instructor: Marta Soares

Healthcare reimbursement and funding decisions are almost always made under uncertainty. But how much does that uncertainty matter? Should additional evidence be collected before adopting a new technology? And how can decision-makers quantify whether further research is worthwhile?

Join us for the Value of Information  (VoI) Short Course, where Marta Soares will introduce the fundamental principles of Value of Information (VoI) analysis and demonstrate how these methods support evidence-based healthcare decision-making.

Combining theoretical concepts with practical applications, this course will explain how to quantify the value of reducing uncertainty in economic evaluation models. Participants will learn the interpretation and use of key VoI metrics—including Expected Value of Perfect Information (EVPI) and Expected Value of Partial Perfect Information (EVPPI)—and understand how these methods can inform reimbursement decisions, research prioritisation and healthcare policy.

Date: Wednesday, 30 September 2026
Time: 16:00–19:00 (WEST – Lisbon Time)
Format: Online
Language: English

About the Instructor

Marta Soares is a Professor at the Centre for Health Economics (CHE), University of York, with more than 20 years of experience in health economics research and over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Her research focuses on the development and application of economic evaluation methods to support healthcare policy decisions, with particular expertise in decision uncertainty, probabilistic analysis, and Value of Information (VoI) methods. Her work has made important contributions to the methodological development of health technology assessment and the use of evidence to inform reimbursement and research funding decisions internationally.
