Sara Machado is a Fellow at the Department of Health Policy at the London School of Economics. She is also the Harvey Chair Scholar in Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She teaches courses in health economics, with a focus on policy applications of fundamental economic concepts, on the Department’s full-time master’s programme and executive education.
She acts as an adviser to national and international organisations, including the Portuguese Ministry of Health and the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policy. She co-authored the Health Systems in Transition – Portugal 2011 country profile and the Strategy for to Eliminate Hepatitis C in Portugal, in 2017.
Sara Machado is committed to building bridges between researchers, policy-makers, and health care practitioners. She is the Deputy Chair of the Early Career Committee of the European Health Economics Association and a member of the Management Board of BEHnet, an international network of researchers and practitioners conducting behavioural experiments in health.
